Many friends have asked me, “What did I do right?” Thinking it through, I believe it is because of the following mindset and attitude, which I had armed myself with:
1. Keeping An Open Mind
I made an effort to understand the business and industry. At first I hear both side of stories, that is the successful and the unsuccessful ones. So after that, off I take action.
2. Asked The Experts or The Gurus in This Field
I talked and discussed with them. Observed their lifestyles, modes of operation and the values of the leaders. I was looking for integrity and honesty. I did not like hype and jazz. I consult the exact people in the industry.
3. Having A Long Term View of The Business
In any business, we need to see the long-term view. But it is normal for human to see the short-term results and this is only for our guidelines. Why we need to look for the long-term view? Because it is a network building business. We all know that building network takes time, particularly building up a network of people. Thus, I did not let short-term sales results get me too overly excited or dejected. In my conventional business, I have been there. It took me 4 years to see the light from the dark tunnel!
4. Emptying My Cup
What does this means? Leave behind whom you are; leaves your degrees and titles outside the door when you attend all the trainings or discussion sessions. Forget who you are currently. This literally means do not prejudge what we are going to learn in this business and do the business this way, and not by using our pre-conceived ideas from other occupations to run this business. If it takes four years for one to obtain a professional degree, then it should not take less time to do the same in this business. “It is better not to make it complicated by applying my conventional business knowledge to do this type of business”, this is what I am applying when I first started.
5. Making Time For The Business
My normal job has taken a lot of my time. Initially this business also took a lot of my time. So the easiest way out for me is to learn a bit more how to do this business online. Online Networking is a beautiful method for people like me. With this method, I will have time for my conventional business, time for online networking and also time for my family, which is equally important for one to succeed. So Time Management is important, discipline is important and willing to learn is the core in this business.
6. Putting In 100% Effort
I always believe that there is no free lunch or free dinner in this world. To get what we want, we have to work for it. Like some people are saying “Nothing is Free in This World”. This industry or business is similar to digging a well (like my those day with an oil company, we dig oil wells). While we keep digging, the pressure will force the oil level to rise, and if we were to take a break, the oil level would go down and we would have to start all over again. (Just as an analogy for this discussion). How to sustain in this business? Keep talking to yourself, and says this is only temporary. One day, I will see the daylight. Work hard today, learn more today, so that it will become easier tomorrow. One thing that I learned is that in any business, I do not think the effort required will be any less, if we want to excel in it. If we want to succeed in anything we do, be it in sports, the corporate world, the conventional business or Networking Marketing business, we have to excel in the things we do and go the extra mile.
7. Accepting The Business in Total and Turning Challenges Into My Ally
Yes, in any business, challenges are always there. However, the impacts of those challenges were minimized because I accepted the business in totality. I accepted the unique intricacies of the business, turning the challenges into my ally, instead of my foe.
