1. Make writing your ebook a priority. Decide that it is something you are going to do and then put it on your schedule and stick to it! If you need help setting goals, I highly suggest reading The Power of Focus by Mark Victor Hansen, Jack Canfield, and Les Hewitt. It’s the most useful goal setting book I have seen out there.
2. For one week, keep a time sheet and write down how you spend your time in 15 minute increments. This is a very powerful exercise and it might surprise you.
Once you see how you are actually spending your time, you can figure out where you are wasting time and start allocating that time for writing your ebook instead.
3. If you are online, do not read emails as they come in. Instead, put a note in your signature file saying that you will answer emails in 24 to 48 hours and then decide on a couple times a day to read and answer your email.
4. Don’t spend time on customer service. Instead use a help desk like Kayako or
Perldesk. And, have someone else handle your customer service, preferably a third-party company so that you don’t have to take over if one person is sick or on vacation. The easiest way to do this is to look at the questions you get asked on a regular basis and then write out your answers to each one and give it to the company. This will insure that your clients get the answers they need without you having to spend the time on customer service!
5. Hire a virtual assistant. Even if you can only afford to spend $5 an hour you should be able to find someone overseas for a couple of hours a month to start. But, get in the habit of turning over tasks to somebody else. Entrepreneurs often have a problem doing this because the company is something they created and it’s hard to let go. But you MUST if you want to free yourself up for the things that will make you money and that you want to spend your time doing.
Thinking that you don’t have time to write your ebook is a common problem for busy entrepreneurs and authors but it’s not insurmountable. By following these 5 easy steps you can start to take back control and make the time you need to write your ebook!
