If you answer a post in a forum that is requesting specific help, the recipient of your help is likely to visit your site as a courtesy, so the signature serves as a means of providing the required links
However for people simply browsing the forum, or newsgroup you posted in the content of the posting is important, but the content of the signature itself is most crucial.
You will get your best responsiveness if you think of this combination as your call to action, by providing a reason for the prospective customer to visit your site - sell the benefit here now - what’s in it for your prospect.
