We have seen past players who were dominant, players who have exceeded the expectations and players who have disappointed. In the 60 years the NBA has been around, there has been many ups and downs, many great things to watch, let things we would not want to. If we study what has happened, we will see how the game of basketball evolved. We will see how rules were changed to make the game fairer and organized and more. We will see how players have changed over their careers and how each part of their game has changed. We will see dynasties and teams who were lucky to win the whole thing. There have been many things that have happened over the years, but what lies in the future?
With the evolution of players, and with the advancement of new technology, players are getting better. In the past, there were maybe 2 players who could dunk from the free throw line, however, now there are some players who can. Today, players are stronger, faster and better than before. They are given vitamins, supplements, advanced training and are taught at a higher level. When you look around, the height of the players are also increasing. There are more 7 foot tall players, where George Mikan was a center at 6-6.
If the NBA continues to get better which it should, because of the vast amount of people that take part in it, the future could be very different. In the future, the average height could be much greater; forwards that play today may not be tall enough and may have to play guard. Centers like Yao Ming will be common and an eight foot tall center may emerge. We know that the overall height of humans has increased since the past. The talent level may also be much greater. Players will now have many more bench marks, more help and preparation needed to exceed. Since there will be more people in this world, there will be more people trying out for basketball, thus increasing the odds that someone will be better come draft time.
There may also be new teams, something that has changed now from the past. The 50 greatest list of all time will be rewritten and standards to get into the hall of fame will be even harder. Lastly, the overall season and playoff format may be different and middle school players may declare themselves for the NBA draft. Last but now least, the height of the rim will probably be increased due to the fact that centers will have no problem dunking on each play.
