A new application allowing users to track the status of their friend’s flights has been released on popular social networking website Facebook. The application uses a tracking system developed by an airline and travel information service, users can now share flight status and location with their friends via their profile pages.
Users now have access to a range of information regarding their flight - including airport and weather reports, departure and arrival times and even real-time flight tracking - sent directly to their pages in order to keep track of details leading up to their holidays.
There are a range of different notification options available to the user, including status alert on their flights - including departure and arrival times - which can be modified using options. Using a Google map application, which refreshes automatically as the flight progresses, users can now follow the progress of their friend’s flights.
Users can elect to have messages sent via Notifications for their flights, as well as using mini-feeds to share the information with those on their friend’s lists. There are also options that allow for information such as notifications about delays and status up to three hours prior to departure, to be sent via e-mail and text message.
With a larger variety of cheap flights now available to us, more of us are taking the chance to holiday abroad - and social network sites have allowed us the opportunity to share our experiences with our friends, as well as aid the process leading up to the holiday.
